AP poised to see major investments in power sector

The Andhra Pradesh Government is set to sign up multiple MoUs in the power sector involving an aggregate investment of about Rs 2 lakh crore covering gas, coal and thermal power projects to be commissioned over next five to six years.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the CII Partnership Summit, Mr Dinesh Kumar, State Principal Secretary, Energy, said “These projects involving an outlay of Rs 2,00,000 crore will include a 4,000 MW w thermal power plant of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), power plants with aggregate power generation capacity of about 9,780 MW by the Andhra Pradesh Generation Corporation, a 2,200 MW power plant of AP Power Development, a subsidiary of AP Genco, and a 1,200 MW coal-based plant by Singareni Collieries Company Ltd in Adilabad district.”
Mr D. Prabhakar Rao, Joint Managing Director of AP Genco, said, “We have earmarked investments of about Rs 36,000 crore over the next five years.”
