Countries such as India and China need to emphasise on alternative energy systems to sustain the pace of development, said speakers at a two-day international conference on ‘Futuristic Trends in Energy Systems' organised by V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College here on Thursday.
Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) former deputy director M. Enamuthu, University of Miami professor Sigiresu S. Rao, and University of Ontario and Technology (UOIT) professor B.V. Reddy explained the importance and significance of alternative energies.
The increased share of renewable or alternative energies would help in keeping the momentum of development. In view of global warming, dwindling natural resources, India should stress on alternative powers, including solar and wind. Mere alternative power generation was not necessary.
The power generation should be optimal, profitable, and work with maximum efficiency. The alternative powers should also be portable, they said.
The portable renewable energies will play a major role in near future as this kind of power generation at fixed place might not be useful for all areas. For instance, think of a car with solar panels on its roof and solely running on solar power, they explained.
DRDO distinguished scientist and chief controller- R&D (HR) V. Bhujanga Rao, who participated as chief guest, said that the engineering graduates were backbone of the country.
The engineering students have to turn their colleges into innovative centres. They should not work on routine and mundane projects. Now planes are a passé. People were thinking of hyper planes which can take you to New York in two hours from Hyderabad.
Think innovatively and work on frontier projects like these, he said.
