With a view to save electricity and increase energy efficiency as well as harness solar energy for various purposes in the city, the Shimla Municipal Corporation will soon implement a solar city plan here.
According to MC engineer, Sanjeev Gupta, "The solar city project is an initiative of the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE), aimed at developing solar cities wherein Shimla city and Hamirpur have been selected in the state to ensure supply of renewable energy."
