Establishment of a gas grid in Tamil Nadu as a solution to address power shortage in the State, a one-time grant of Rs 2,500 crore to upgrade Chennai's infrastructure and compensation of VAT and CST to the State were among the demands of the State Government to the Centre at a pre-budget meeting organised by the Union Finance Ministry.
According to an official press release, the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, Mr O. Panneerselvam, addressing the pre-budget meeting sought the establishment of a gas grid connecting the major cities of the State to Colachel Port, which can be developed as an energy port with facility for LNG import to address the prevailing power shortage in the State.
