Tata & SN plan 25,000MW hydro power projects


Tata Power together with its Norwegian partner, SN Power, has decided to set up hydroelectric power projects with a generation capacity of 25,000mw across India and Nepal. The joint venture partners have already bagged two hydro projects including the 880mw project at Tamakoshi in Nepal and are currently scouting for more such projects in the two countries. In addition to this, the domestic player is currently implementing a 25mw solar project in Mithapur area of Gujarat which is thrown open for commercial operations very shortly.
According to the Executive Director, Finance, Tata Power, S Ramakrishnan both the joint venture partners are scouting for more opportunities and the Tamakoshi hydro power project in Nepal is currently in an early stage of development. The domestic player has 500mw of hydro projects in the country and is aggressively looking for generating 25,000mw of power by 2017. The company is targeting 25 to 29 percent share in energy generated through clean energy resources including a mix of hydro, solar, wind geothermal and waste gas generation. Of the Tata Powers total install capacity of 3,648mw wind and solar power account for 348mw and 3mw respectively, he claimed.
